Having an unexpected guest can be a wonderful surprise but at the same time it could also be stressful as you would want to make sure that your guest has everything, he or she needs to feel comfortable. Therefore, knowing in advance when your guest is arriving and for how long he or she will be staying with you will be useful information as then you can prepare things accordingly.
The Room
The bed is the most important aspect of the room and where your guest will be able to get a good night’s sleep. Therefore, it is important to make sure the bed has a good mattress. If you feel the mattress should be changed, consider looking around for a foam mattress for sale. Once you have picked out the mattress, the next thing you need is clean sheets.
Make sure you change the sheets as it is always nicer, especially after a long trip, to sleep on clean and fresh sheets. If it is the summertime, and the temperature is high then make sure the air conditioning in the room works well. It is unlikely that your guest will complain about the room, however by putting in the effort you can ensure that your guest is telling the truth when they say they are comfortable.
Toiletries
Cleaning the toilet before your guest arrives is a must. No one likes to use a dirty toilet, therefore make sure that it is thoroughly cleaned before they arrive. It is also a good idea to keep the essentials such as shampoo, body wash, toilet roll, sanitary napkins etc. stocked. It is a good idea to make sure you have extra toiletries in case your guest might need it. For example, if his or her toothbrush falls on the ground, having an extra toothbrush stocked away in the cupboard will come in handy.
Food
Find out what your guest like to eat and make it for them. If they are visiting from overseas, instead of making food they are used to and eat every day, you can consider preparing local dishes. It may be boring to you as you are used to eating the local cuisine almost every day but to your guest it will likely be an exciting experience. However, it would help you in knowing what they do not like or what they cannot eat. For example, if your friend has any allergies, this is useful information for you to have as then you can prepare the meal accordingly.
Feeling Welcome
When you invite someone to stay in your home, it is important to make them feel welcome. Therefore, try not to get upset or angry over things such as spilled wine on the sofa or a broken plate. Having a negative reaction to situations like these can make your guest feel out of place.
However, if you react positively, it will aid in making them feel comfortable and it could even help them feel at home. Make sure you put in the effort to welcome your guest so that they feel comfortable to ask you for anything as this would help make their stay much more pleasant.
